JUST FOR PETS IS VERY PROUD TO ANNOUNCE OUR AMTRA SQP INDUSTRY 2009 PRIZE WINNERS

AMTRA is an independent regulatory body whose task it is to ensure that the marketing and distribution of animal medicines in the UK is undertaken in a responsible manner by AMTRA qualified persons.

An SQP or "suitably qualified person" has to pass a set of exams to demonstrate animal health and knowledge and an understanding of the legal system. SQP's are allowed to prescribe and supply certain medicines.

We were delighted when three of our staff were nominated for awards and very proud when they each achieved admirable positions.

The winner of the coveted AHDA CUP was one by our very own Ian Jones who is Supervisor at our Droitwich branch

Second prize went to Amy Daniels who is a senior sales assistant also from our Droitwich branch

Third prize went to Sian Narsingh who is Livestock supervisor at our Bromsgrove branch

Congratulations to all three longstanding members of staff for their dedication and hard work.

Harry the Just for Pets Office Cat

AGE : Approx-11    JOB TITLE : Quality Control   LOCATION : Just for Pets, Head Office

Very sadly after a battle with cancer we had to make the decision to put Harry to sleep.

Harry will be sorely missed at the Just for Pets office as he was the centre of all attention and had been with us for over 11 years testing beds, toys & treats as his role in "quality control"

Always ready for a cuddle he has left a very big Harry shaped space.

 Great news for pets

In January 2008 Wilsons Pet Centres Ltd was acquired by Wynnstay Plc.

This was a huge day in the history of Wilsons. The stores will continue to operate as normal and all staff and management will remain unchanged.

However Wilsons is now owned by a PLC which gives it stronger buying power , greater ambition and exciting expansion plans.

This can only be great news for your pet bringing more choice, new lines, new services, lower prices and even more special offers in store.

The article below is a copy of the press statement issued by Wynnstay about this exciting development:

Wynnstay is pleased to announce the acquisition of Wilson’s Pet Centres Limited, the Midlands based chain of pet superstores. The acquisition wholly complements Wynnstay's existing pet supplies and retailing activities, adding critical mass and giving Wynnstay a strong market position in the West Midlands region. Wynnstay expects the addition of Wilson’s Pet Centres to be immediately earnings enhancing.

Based in Bromsgrove in the West Midlands, Wilson’s Pet Centres was established in 1993. Since then, the management has built up a chain of 10 pet superstores, with locations in the south west Midlands in Evesham, Malvern, Worcester, Droitwich, Kidderminster, Northfield, Acocks Green, Stourbridge, Swadlincote and Bromsgrove. The stores are modern and spacious, with an average floor space of 6,000 sq ft, and are typically located within retail parks. Each store offers a comprehensive range of pet care products as well as related services such as in-store pet grooming, pet behaviour courses and pet insurance.

Following the completion of the acquisition, the two principal directors of Wilson ’s Pet Centres, who together have 42 years' experience of pet supplies retailing, will remain with the business and will lead the on-going development of Wynnstay's pet products retailing activities.

Wynnstay has a successful track record of integrating retail acquisitions and the Group believes that there is excellent potential for expanding its pet-related activities through both dedicated pet and general stores. Wilson’s Pet Centres will be rebranded under Wynnstay's existing pet brand, 'Just for Pets', and as part of the Wynnstay group, it is expected that it will benefit from opportunities to enhance purchasing, marketing and its product offering.

Bernard Harris, managing director of Wynnstay, commented,

"We have been extending Wynnstay's existing retailing activities into the high growth area of pet care products for some time now and, following the launch in the Summer of our own dedicated pet store format, Just for Pets, the acquisition of Wilson’s Pet Centres is the next logical step.

Wilson ’s Pet Centres is a long-established, well-run chain in the West Midlands, with a reputation for efficient and friendly customer service. Combining the business with our own is compelling and brings significant benefits, both from the point of view of cost efficiencies and ongoing growth strategies.

I am very pleased too that the senior management team at Wilsons Pet Centres will remain with the enlarged business, leading its development, and believe that there are exciting growth opportunities ahead of us."

All stores already sell a wide range of worm and flea control treatments. Legislation has now changed so we can now sell a range of products that until now have only been available from veterinary outlets.

These veterinary style treatments can only be dispensed by Suitably Qualified People (SQPs).We have invested in many of our key store staff by registering them on recognized training courses so that they have the expertise and the qualification to advise and sell you these products.

Now available in all just for pets stores *

*subject to a Suitably Qualified Person being in store

Frontline is the only treatment for dogs & cats that gives really long lasting protection against fleas & ticks and controls biting lice. Adult fleas are killed within 24 hours.

Protection lasts for up to 2 months for dogs and 5 weeks for cats.

Once you have treated your pet we recommend that you also treat your pets bedding with a household treatment.

Before using Frontline you should discuss with our SQPs in store which product is best for your pet and how to use it.

Regular worming is essential for your pet to protect it and the rest of the household.

Drontal is a simple single dose tablet that will control all intestinal worms that can sometimes be found in dogs and cats.

We recommend that adult dogs are treated every 3 months.

Before using Drontal you should discuss with our SQPs in store which product is best for your pet and how to use it.
